What is Microneedling?

Microneedling may sound like an intimidating procedure, no thanks to the word “needle” in its name, but with numbing cream, it is completely painless.  Even better – because microneedling creates thousands of small channels directly into the dermis – it allows us to deliver medical-grade therapies such as Retin-a (to enhance collagen production) or PRP (to increase regeneration) directly to where it will be most effective! Done regularly, microneedling in Denver will make your skin thicker, tighter, and stronger, with fewer lines and a beautiful, healthy glow.

Microneedling: The regenerative benefits of lasers… but without the downtime

Lasers — the most common tools for removing fine lines and tightening skin — use heat to make small, controlled wounds. These small wounds kick-start the skin’s intrinsic healing ability, resulting in smoother, healthier, tighter skin. Lasers allow us to do amazing things, but the downtime can be a problem for some of our patients. Microneedling — a technique that uses needles to create tiny holes into the skin — can stimulate the skin to regenerate the same way lasers do but without using heat. What that means for you is that finally, with microneedling in Denver, we have a procedure that can regenerate skin with almost no downtime!

What Does Microneedling Treat?

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Acne scars
  • Enlarged pores
  • Uneven skin tone and texture
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Stretch marks
  • Skin laxity
  • Sun damage
  • Age spots

How does microneedling work?

Microneedling harnesses the skin's natural healing response through controlled micro-injuries. During the procedure, tiny needles penetrate the skin's surface, creating thousands of microscopic channels. This process activates the body's wound-healing process, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin.

These proteins are essential for maintaining skin structure and elasticity. As new collagen forms, the skin becomes firmer, smoother, and more youthful in appearance. Additionally, the microchannels created during microneedling enhance the absorption of topical treatments, allowing for more targeted treatments.

Advantages of microneedling:

  • Minimally invasive procedure
  • Stimulates natural collagen and elastin production
  • Improves skin texture and tone
  • Can be used on various skin types and tones
  • Little to no downtime
  • Safe and effective treatment
  • Enhances absorption of topical treatments
  • Versatile application for facial and body treatments

What happens during microneedling?

During microneedling in Denver, a specialized device with tiny needles is gently passed over your skin. These needles create thousands of microscopic channels on the skin's surface, triggering the production of collagen and elastin. The procedure is usually painless, especially with the application of numbing cream beforehand. For better results, we use a collagen-stimulating product like Hyaluronic Acid or PRP immediately after the procedure.

Optimal results with minimal downtime

After microneedling, you might experience mild redness or swelling akin to a sunburn, which typically diminishes within a day or two. Some individuals may notice slight bruising or pinpoint bleeding at the needle sites, but these effects are temporary. Since microneedling is minimally invasive, downtime is minimal, and you can typically resume normal activities immediately. However, it's crucial to follow post-procedure care instructions provided by your skincare professional to optimize healing and results.

How many treatments do I need?

Microneedling can be safely repeated every 4-6 weeks until you achieve the desired results. For fine lines, we recommend starting with 3 treatments but with a minimum separation time of 4 weeks between treatments. For scar reduction, an average of 6 treatments are recommended. The number of treatments required with microneedling in Denver will depend on how each individual responds to the treatments and the extent of the damage we are attempting to repair.
After you achieve your goals, we recommend maintenance treatments about once a quarter to maintain your results and prevent new lines from occurring.

Should I get medical microneedling or a laser treatment?

Is microneedling at home the same as microneedling in a medical spa?

This couldn’t be further from the truth. The tools we use at RESTOR can penetrate about 6-12 times deeper into the skin than the devices you can use at home, so you can expect much more dramatic results with our microneedling in Denver.

Does microneedling hurt?

At RESTOR, we apply a topical numbing cream, and you will not feel any discomfort during the procedure. Your skin may feel slightly tight and hot for a few hours after the procedure, but not painful. We also offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) for pain control if you desire.

Who should get microneedling?

Simply put – if you are aging, you are a great candidate. Since microneedling in Denver doesn’t use heat and is totally mechanical, it’s safe for all skin colors and types. Just make sure there aren’t any inflamed or infected areas on your skin, and if you have a cystic acne breakout, wait until it clears up before coming in for your appointment. We generally do not recommend microneedling for anyone with a history of Keloid scar formation or who has had radiation treatments on the area of the skin to be treated.

What areas on the body can be treated?

Microneedling isn’t exclusive to the face. The treatment can be done anywhere the skin on the body needs to be thickened, tightened, or repaired. The most common problem areas for most patients are the neck and decollete, but it can also be done on stretch marks or scars anywhere on the body.

How often can I get it done?

This depends on the severity of the issue. If your skin is generally healthy and you receive regular medical-grade skin care, a few sessions a year of our microneedling in Denver will be enough to hold most aging at bay. Someone with more advanced aging or acne scarring should plan to do one session per month for 4 to 6 months, with a few sessions a year for maintenance after that.

How should I care for my skin after my medical microneedling treatment?

We recommend that you apply nothing to your face for at least 6 hours after your microneedling. After that – you can wash and moisturize with the post-care products we provide to you. You can apply makeup after 24 hours. To ensure the right healing environment, we recommend only a neutral cleanser and sunscreen for the first two days. Avoid “active” ingredients such as glycolic acid, retinol, or exfoliants until the redness has faded from the skin. Exposure to sun should also be avoided or zinc-based sunblock should be used. After three to four days, you can resume your normal skincare regime.

When will I begin to see the results of my medical microneedling?

Most people will begin to see results of microneedling in Denver within two weeks after the first appointment with continuous improvement for two months after the completion of their series. Scars respond more slowly than skin sagging, fine lines, and pore size. They also take more treatments to correct. It can take up to 6 months to 1 year to heal deep scars and severe stretch marks.

Can medical microneedling be performed on any skin color?

Unlike some lasers, medical microneedling is safe to use on all skin types and all skin colors.

Should I get medical microneedling or a laser treatment?

Medical microneedling is considerably less costly than most resurfacing procedures, with less downtime. It can be performed on all skin types, including ethnic skin, and can be used on all areas of the face and body. This includes fragile skin, such as around the eyes, mouth, and neck. Medical microneedling can be safely repeated every 4-6 weeks until you achieve the desired results. For fine lines, we recommend starting with 3 treatments but with a minimum separation time of 4 weeks between treatments. For scar reduction, an average of 6 treatments are recommended. The number of treatments required will depend on how each individual responds to the treatments and the extent of the damage we are attempting to repair. After you achieve your goals with our microneedling in Denver, we recommend maintenance treatments about once a quarter to maintain your results and prevent new lines from occurring. Microneedling requires a series of 3-6 treatments spread out over several months, whereas a fractional laser requires only one or two treatments to get the same results.
