How your lips change over the years…

• Volume Loss: As you age, the natural collagen and fat in your lips diminish, resulting in decreased volume and fullness. Lips may appear thinner and less defined compared to their youthful appearance.
• Philtral Column Breakdown: The philtral columns, which are the two parallel lines of tissue between the nose and upper lip, weaken and diminish over time. This breakdown leads to the loss of the distinctive “Cupid’s Bow” shape of the upper lip, causing it to flatten.
• Smokers’ Lines: With age, the combination of volume loss and reduced collagen production can lead to the development of fine horizontal lines around the lips, commonly referred to as “smokers’ lines.” These can occur in both smokers and non-smokers.
• Marionette Lines: As the volume decreases in the chin area, particularly in horizontal lines below the outside edge of the lips, “marionette lines” form. These lines extend downward from the corners of the mouth, giving the lips a sagging or aging look.
