Hormonal changes during perimenopause and menopause affect everything from energy and sleep to mood, metabolism, and overall quality of life. At RESTOR Medical Spa, many women ask which BHRT option is best for their lifestyle, symptoms, and long-term wellness goals.
The truth is, there is no one-size-fits-all approach to hormone optimization. The best BHRT for women depends on your hormone levels, symptoms, preferences, and how your body responds to treatment. Understanding the differences between delivery methods can help you make a confident and informed decision.
Understanding BHRT for Women
Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) uses hormones that are structurally identical to those naturally produced by the body. The goal is to restore hormonal balance and help relieve symptoms associated with declining estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone levels.
At RESTOR, every hormone optimization plan is personalized based on:
- Comprehensive lab testing
- Symptoms and health history
- Lifestyle and wellness goals
- Treatment preferences
Because every woman experiences hormonal changes differently, treatment should be tailored specifically to you.
Why the Delivery Method Matters
One of the most important parts of BHRT is choosing how hormones are delivered into the body. Different methods affect:
- Hormone absorption
- Dosing consistency
- Convenience and maintenance
- Flexibility with adjustments
- Potential side effects
Some women prefer low-maintenance options with steady hormone delivery, while others want more flexibility and control. The right method is the one that fits seamlessly into your life while supporting optimal results.
BHRT Pellets: Why We Do Not Offer Them at RESTORÂ
At RESTOR we do not offer pellet therapy – as we feel that the convenience of the âset it and forget itâ option is outweighed by the fact that levels fluctuate over time, and dosing cannot be adjusted as a patientâs body changes. We feel that pellets are a masterclass in marketing – not medicine. They allow individuals who are undertrained and do not understand dosing to use proprietary software to calculate doses for them. Providers who understand hormones generally do pellets only in established long term patients – and only when they ask for it. There is never a good reason – in my opinion – to start a new patient on a dosing formulation that you cannot adjust.
Creams and Gels: Flexible Daily Therapy
Topical creams and gels provide a more flexible approach to BHRT. Hormones are absorbed through the skin with daily application, allowing treatment to be adjusted more easily if symptoms change.
Women often choose creams or gels because they:
- Are non-invasive
- Allow gradual dosage adjustments
- Fit easily into daily routines
- Offer personalized flexibility
This option works well for women who prefer more control over their therapy and are comfortable with consistent daily use. However – this option only exists for Estrogen and Testosterone. Thyroid Hormone and Progesterone should only be delivered orally.
Patches: Consistent and Convenient
Hormone patches deliver bioidentical hormones steadily through the skin and are typically replaced weekly. They offer reliable hormone delivery without requiring pills or daily applications.
Patches may be ideal for women who want:
- Simple, low-maintenance treatment
- Consistent hormone absorption
- A non-invasive option
- Predictable symptom support
Some women experience mild skin sensitivity, but rotating application sites often helps minimize irritation. Patches are only made for Estrogen – but can be a good option when oral estrogen is not an option.
Oral and Sublingual Hormone Therapy
Oral and sublingual BHRT options remain a good fit for many women. Oral tablets are swallowed traditionally, while sublingual medications dissolve under the tongue for faster absorption.
These methods may appeal to women who:
- Prefer traditional medication routines
- Want straightforward dosing
- Need flexible treatment adjustments
Because oral hormones are processed differently in the body, providers carefully evaluate your health history and treatment goals before recommending this approach. This option is available for Estrogen, Progesterone and Thyroid hormone. Testosterone does not have a safe oral option.
Combination Therapy: A Personalized Approach
The best results come from combining multiple treatment methods. At RESTOR we recommend that Progesterone and Thyroid hormone be taken orally – thyroid in the morning and Progesterone at night. Testosterone can be an injection or a cream – they both work well and it is up to the patient which delivery they prefer – although injections are much cheaper. Estrogen can be a topical or a pill – and that is determined by the patientâs personal and family history.
Combination therapy allows for:
- More customized symptom management
- Greater flexibility
- Ongoing treatment adjustments
- Improved balance and comfort
At RESTOR, hormone optimization is never static. Your treatment evolves with your body and your needs over time.
Comparing Side Effects and Safety
Every BHRT method has potential side effects, though most are mild and temporary during the adjustment phase. These can include:
- Mild bloating
- Breast tenderness
- Mood fluctuations
- Temporary skin irritation
The key to successful hormone therapy is careful monitoring, personalized dosing, and ongoing communication with your provider. Regular follow-ups help ensure your treatment remains both safe and effective.
Choosing the Right BHRT Provider
The success of hormone therapy depends not only on the treatment itself, but also on the expertise behind it. Choosing an experienced provider ensures your therapy is:
- Personalized to your body
- Carefully monitored
- Adjusted as needed over time
- Designed around long-term wellness
At RESTOR Medical Spa, we focus on comprehensive hormone optimization rather than temporary symptom management. Our goal is to help you feel balanced, energized, and fully yourself again.
