To make PRP, we draw a small amount of blood from your arm and spin it in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets into a small amount of plasma – hence the name platelet-rich plasma, or PRP. Platelet-Rich Plasma is gaining in popularity for the same reasons athletes and celebrities chose it: because of its organic nature and because it works. Also, since PRP uses plasma and platelets from your own blood, side effects are practically nonexistent.

How PRP Works

Platelets are the cells in the blood that help tissue heal and regenerate after an injury. Your platelets are packed with molecules called Growth Factors, and this is no accident. Think about what happens when you cut your skin: It bleeds, and platelets flood the wounded area to form a clot. And then what happens? New skin grows. Have you ever thought about how amazing that is? Have you ever wondered how that is possible?

The platelet’s job is to carry growth factors to the site of an injury, where they stimulate the local tissues and stem cells to regenerate wounded tissues. So what happens when you put concentrated platelets in aging skin? The growth factors do their job and naturally “wake up” the dermal cells, causing them to produce more collagen and elastin, which makes your skin more youthful after our PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) in Denver.

What happens during a face rejuvenation treatment with PRP?

All PRP treatments will require a blood draw – the same procedure used when your doctor draws blood for testing. The amount of blood we use depends on how many areas we are treating, but a good rule of thumb is that we will need about 10ml (two teaspoons) per area.

If you are getting a skin rejuvenation treatment – similar to the Vampire Facial® – you will receive a microneedling treatment, after which the PRP will be applied to the surface of your skin, like a masque. This is painless and takes about one to two minutes.

Is the treatment painful?

If you are getting a skin rejuvenation treatment – similar to the Vampire Facial® – then numbing cream will be applied to the face for about 20 minutes before the microneedling phase of the treatment. Most people do not feel any discomfort during the procedure. The application of the PRP after the microneedling is totally painless.

How long does a prp treatment take?

If you are getting a skin rejuvenation treatment – similar to the Vampire Facial® – the whole treatment will take about 45 minutes. There will be 20 minutes of numbing, followed by 15 minutes for the microneedling to be performed. The PRP is then applied to your skin like a Masque. This takes a few minutes.

How long is the recovery time?

If you are getting PRP in Denver as a skin rejuvenation treatment – similar to the Vampire Facial® – you will experience mild redness the day of the procedure. The normal healing time after Microneedling is 2-3 days. When patients have PRP applied after their microneedling, their skin is usually fully healed in 24 hours, due to the ability of the growth factors in PRP to speed up the healing process.

Are there any kind of complications?

Since PRP is created from your very own bloodstream, there have been no recorded complications from its application.

When will I see results?

Since PRP stimulates your body to produce its own natural collagen, the results are gradual. You will start to see them about one month after your treatment, with full results at three months. We generally recommend 2-3 treatments spaced about 4-6 weeks apart for you to see the full effects.

How many treatments will I need?

Whether you are using PRP for skin rejuveneration, we generally recommend 2-3 treatments spaced about 4-6 weeks apart for you to see the full effects. After you have achieved the full effect, you can maintain your results with 1-2 treatments a year.

How long will my results last?

Once you have gotten the full benefit from a series of PRP treatments, the results last 1 year to 18 months. 1-2 treatments a year will be able to maintain your results essentially indefinitely. If you do not get a full series of PRP treatments, your results will not last as long.

Can any skin type use PRP?

Yes. Since PRP comes from your own body, it can safely be used on any skin type.

How long has PRP been studied?

PRP has a 30-year history of being used in orthopedic surgery, dentistry, and rehabilitative medicine. It has been used in plastic surgery and dermatology for about 10 years. Scientific studies dating back 30 years have documented that PRP stimulated the growth of new tissue when applied to wounded or injured areas of the body. Recent studies show that PRP can soften sun damage and other aging skin issues.
